Siam A.D. 15th – 16th century
Prince Siddartha (Buddha) of Kapilavastu, India, was the founder of Buddhism. At age 29, he left his place to seek the Enlightenment that would lead to his faith.
An ascetic isolated on a mountain for seven years, he descended from the mountain to seven years, he descended from the mountain to bathe in a river and meditate under a Bodhi tree where he fought off the temptations of evil through a bitter night. With the rising sun, he was finally enlightened. This gold- plated bronze statue of a seated Buddha displays his right hand in a ‘Pressing The Earth’ gesture, manifesting the Buddha’s enlightenment.
